Burgled gun store could be charged

9:55 pm on 3 July 2013

Police say security at an Auckland gun shop that was burgled could have been a lot better and are considering if it should be prosecuted.

More than two dozen firearms, including semi-automatic shotguns and bolt-action rifles, were taken from Gun City in the suburb of Mount Roskill about 10pm on Wednesday.

Inspector Jacqui Whittaker said a criminal investigation into who stole the guns and another looking into whether the store's security was sufficient are being carried out.

Ms Whittaker said she is concerned that the guns could end up being traded among criminals.
