Regional political party idea 'flooded with support'

5:18 pm on 5 August 2013

A Dunedin businessman says he has been flooded with support since he called for a new political party to represent regional New Zealand.

Ian Taylor, chief executive of Animation Research, wrote to the Otago Daily Times calling for a Otago/Southland political party in a bid to save regional jobs.

He says current political parties are not giving the regions a voice in Parliament.

Mr Taylor says many regional areas are suffering while the focus is on growing Auckland and rebuilding Christchurch.

He says he doesn't want to stand for the party, but is keen to work with other interested people to look at the idea further.
