Conservative party to contest Auckland elections

8:37 am on 7 August 2013

The fledgling Conservative Party is to take part in the elections in Auckland in October, as part of building the party's brand for the general election next year.

Party leader Colin Craig will on Wednesday launch the campaign for at least 15 of the 21 local boards in the city.

Mr Craig ran third as an Independent mayoral candidate three years ago.

He said the party may seek seats on the council itself in three years.

Mr Craig said that while the candidates will campaign on local issues, the messages will be consistent with the party's message in the general election next year. Fiscal policy will be a key plank.
