100 call centre jobs to go

The Engineering, Printing & Manufacturing Union says a call centre company plans to cut about 100 jobs in Auckland.

The EPMU says Sitel has told staff it plans to relocate its Onehunga contact centre to Brisbane and Manila.

The union wants the company to provide alternative employment or compensation for its workers while they are looking for new jobs.

It says this case demonstrates the danger in relying on New Zealand's relatively low wages to attract jobs from Australia.
