Two sizeable earthquakes occurred on Tuesday morning.
A magnitude 4.6 quake was felt at 9.45am in Christchurch, centred 10km west of the city at a depth of 6km.
Earlier in the North Island, a magnitude 4.2 quake at a depth of 5km occurred 20km off White Island, at about 3.45am.
