Police have named a motorcyclist who was killed after crashing into a bridge on State Highway One in North Canterbury on Friday afternoon.
He was Dylan Paul Thomson, 22, of Christchurch.
Police say Mr Thomson lost control of his motorbike after clipping another vehicle he was trying to overtake while crossing the Ashley River bridge, north of Waikuku.
They say it is likely that speed and alcohol contributed to the crash.
