Police say charges are likely to be laid over a crash that killed a 24-year-old motorcyclist in North Otago.

Cameron Johnson from Christchurch, who was known as Blaze, has died in hospital from the injuries he received in a collision with a car on Sunday afternoon.

Police say the car's driver was doing a U-turn when the bike struck it near Bushey, north of Palmerston.

The 52-year-old driver was taken to Dunedin hospital with minor injuries.

Police say their inquiries are continuing into the cause of the crash, and charges are likely.
