Canterbury DHB receives big quake payout

The Canterbury District Health Board has settled a $320 million insurance payout for damage done to its facilities in the Canterbury earthquakes, $180 million short of the damage it incurred.

The payout is equal to Housing New Zealand's, which was announced earlier this year.

DHB chairman Bruce Matheson says more than $500 million worth of earthquake-related damage has been found in their buildings and infrastructure since the September 2010 quake.

He says that includes damage to 12,000 of the 16,000 rooms in the DHB's facilities.

Mr Matheson says work has already begun on prioritising the projects that need insurance money spent on them.
