The Government has announced almost $17 million will go towards building 87 new community social houses in Auckland.
The houses will be built on four sites and aimed at lower income families for both rental and home-assisted ownership.
They will be half paid for by the Government and the rest of the funding to come from a different partnership at each site, with organisations including the Vision West Community Trust and the Chinese New Settlers Services Trust.
Housing Minister Nick Smith says the Government is spending $2.9 billion on Housing New Zealand, and Monday's announcement is a small part of the overall housing strategy.
"This is part of the Government's broader social housing reforms where we're wanting to expand the social housing sector, ultimately with the goal of 20 percent of New Zealand's social housing being run by community housing organisations by 2018."
