The Government has spent $1.2 million in legal fees to buy land for its anchor projects in Christchurch.

Documents issued to Radio New Zealand under the Official Information Act show this amount was spent on legal services to complete the transactions on 763 central city properties.

The Government blueprint for the central city includes 18 major developments, often referred to as the Anchor Projects.

It has had to acquire nine properties for one of the projects, the East Frame residential and commercial development - spending $240,00 in legal fees to buy the land.
