Far North man denies abusing girls

9:07 pm on 20 November 2013

A Far North man accused of abusing girls at an after-school care programme has denied all the charges.

James Sanders, 65, entered not guilty pleas in the Kaitaia District Court on Tuesday to 25 counts of sexual offending against young girls including two of sexual violation.

Police say most of the offending took place in the Far North but one charge laid involves a girl who alleges that Mr Sanders assaulted her at Ruakaka, south of Whangarei, in 2003.

Mr Sanders has elected trial by jury and has been remanded in custody.
