Christchurch council confirms restructure plans

2:38 pm on 22 November 2013

One of the biggest shake-ups of Christchurch City Council's senior management team in 10 years has been announced.

The proposal includes the creation of six new second-tier roles reporting to the chief executive and the disestablishment of six existing general manager roles.

Acting chief executive Jane Parfitt said on Friday the planned reorganisation will ensure that the council has the structure to cope with the $40 billion rebuilding of the earthquake-hit city.

The council's structure has not significantly changed since 2003. Ms Parfitt is proposing that the existing team of eight general managers will be split into four rebuild directors, with three of those focusing on daily operations.

She says she has taken advice from an American expert who specialises in post-disaster organisational restructures.

Consultation with senior staff on the proposal runs for two weeks and a final decision is due by 12 December.
