Bushfire controlled in native forest at Bombay

Nine fire crews successfuly battled a large bushfire in Bombay, south of Auckland on Saturday night.

The Fire Service says nine appliances fought the blaze which covers 3000 square metres in Chamberlain Road area, which is burning in native forest and a pine plantation.

A spokesperson says the fire stated on a steep hillside, making access difficult.

He says the fire burned close to houses but did not endanger them.
