Two people are in a stable condition in hospital in Blenheim after falling from a motorcycle travelling at more than 160 kilometres per hour.

The 24 year-old man driving the motorcycle was not wearing a helmet when he lost control of the vehicle at Okaramio, south of Havelock, at about 6.30pm on Saturday.

Nelson-Marlborough Rescue Helicopter says both the rider and his female pillon passenger suffered serious abrasions.

It says one was flown to Wairau Hospital in Blenheim, and the other was taken for further assessment.
