Brazen ring theft

12:38 pm on 6 December 2013

Police are still trying to find a woman they say stole a $13,000 sapphire ring and yelled out "thank you" as she fled the store in Auckland.

The woman tried on the ring at the Nuttall Jewellers store in the Auckland North Shore suburb of Birkenhead before running out with it on.

Sergeant Tim Williams says she drove off in a white car with the ring which has 12 carat sapphires set in 18 carat yellow gold.

"A very brazen theft, just to walk in there and take the property, and obviously pretty cheeky on the way out to say 'thank you' when she was leaving."

Mr Williams is asking anyone who may know the woman, or who was near the store on Mokoia Road last Thursday, to contact police.
