The Employment Relations Authority has found that the University of Otago unjustifiably dismissed a marketing manager.
Kerry Kirkland had claimed more than $270,000 in compensation for the dismissal six months ago on medical grounds.
After a two-day hearing in November, the authority rejected her claims that complaints she had been rude to colleagues and contractors had been fabricated, or not properly communicated.
The authority found those complaints were never properly investigated as Dr Kirkland demanded.
The Employment Relations Authority ordered the university to pay compensation of $12,465.75 - only a fraction of the amount sought.
