Call for more timetable information after fatal crash at crossing

9:41 am on 13 December 2013

The chair of the local board in rural West Auckland where a man died after his car was hit by a train says there needs to be more communication with residents about train timetables.

The 73-year-old man died when his vehicle was hit in Waimauku just after 10am Thursday.

It is the third time a vehicle has been hit by a train in the area in the last few months.

Rodney district local board chair Brenda Steele says residents need to be better informed, she says trains are coming through more often than they used to and Kiwirail should notify residents about the timetables.

Kiwirail says the recent incidents are of concern, but the timetable on that line hasn't changed for a number of years.
