Queenstown taxi driver robbed

4:38 pm on 5 February 2014

Police in Queenstown are investigating the assault and robbery of a taxi driver early on Wednesday.

A spokesperson says the driver picked up a man in town and drove him to the Queenstown Lakeview Holiday Park about 3am.

When he could not pay, the driver took him to the Queenstown Memorial Recreation Ground where he said he would meet a friend for money.

The man then disappeared and, when the driver went looking for him, was attacked by the passenger and two other men and robbed of $700.

The 24-year-old driver is recovering at home with minor injuries.

Police want to speak with anyone who saw suspicious behaviour around Robins and Gorge roads or a white sedan car.
