Police have named a woman who drowned at Pukehina Beach in Bay of Plenty on Saturday.
She was Francis Webster, aged 53, of Rotorua.
Police earlier said a 45-year-old Rotorua man was swimming at Pukehina Beach on Saturday when he got into difficulty in a rip about 100 metres from the shore.
Francis Webster went to help him and also got into trouble, and a lifeguard and jet ski were sent to their aid.
The man was rescued but Ms Webster was pulled from the surf unresponsive. Efforts to revive her were unsuccessful.
