Elderly 'need certainty' after quakes

An advocate for the elderly in Christchurch says time is not on their side, and many need answers about their earthquake-damaged homes before it is too late.

About 100 elderly people attended an older generations forum on Monday, the sixth of its kind since the earthquakes.

A community co-ordinator for the Office of Senior Citizens, John Patterson, says elderly people are told to remain patient, but many have died while waiting for repairs or rebuilding of earthquake-damaged homes.

Mr Patterson says the elderly community needs certainty, and many people are still waiting for answers on insurance claims.
