Len Brown's security costs questioned

12:41 pm on 22 February 2014

An Auckland councillor says the public's been misled over what he says was unnecesssary and unwarranted extra security for the city's mayor.

Newly released emails show two extra guards were ordered at the last minute for the opening of the Panmure transport hub last month.

They show Auckland Transport staff were worried specifically about protests at Len Brown's first public engagement of the year.

It's despite the mayor's office saying it only expects normal arrangements at events he goes to.

Councillor Cameron Brewer raised questions about the level of security at the time and says they were rubbished.
