A man has been seriously injured after falling six metres onto rocks while canyoning in the Coromandel.
Auckland rescue helicopter crewman Mark Cannell says the accident happened at about 3pm on Sunday while the man was canyoning with family and friends.
Mr Cannell says the group was moving through a series of narrow gorges connected by waterfalls.
He says the man, who was in his thirties, had head, neck and back injuries and was flown to Auckland City Hospital.
