Missing Alps trampers safe

1:19 pm on 4 March 2014

Two trampers missing at Arthur's Pass in the Southern Alps are recovering after being found cold and hungry but otherwise unharmed.

A 56-year-old man and his daughter, 24, from Christchurch, left Klondyke Corner for an overnight tramp on Saturday.

They were reported overdue when they hadn't arrived by Sunday night.

They were spotted just before 9am on Tuesday and a helicopter sent to retrieve them.

An incident controller for police search and rescue, Logan Penrose, says the pair are lucky they were found before the cold really affected them.

Mr Penrose says they were adequately prepared for the tramp.

German still missing

In the Nelson Lakes National Park bad weather has again halted the search for a missing German tourist

Christian Prehn, 19, has not been seen since last Tuesday.
