Police chase ends with man in hospital

A teenager allegedly linked to a crime spree on Auckland's North Shore has been treated in hospital after the stolen car he was in crashed following a police pursuit.

Police first became involved about 11pm on Sunday when they pulled over a stolen car in Devonport. The people inside told police the driver had fled and was armed with a gun and a knife.

About the same time, a person was assaulted and robbed in a nearby cemetery.

Soon after, another person nearby was assaulted and had his car stolen.

Two people fled in a car matching its description following another aggravated robbery in nearby Glenfield 15 minutes later.

The car failed to stop at an intersection and police pursued it, before it crashed at an inner-city intersection.

The two people in the car were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Devonport resident Karin Loesch said she woke up late last night to the sound of men arguing.

"It was a bit unusual. I heard a bit of noise. Maybe 10 or 15 minutes later, I saw at least two, maybe three even, guys walking up here."

The street was usually silent, Ms Loesch said.

Police said a 16-year-old had been charged with aggravated robbery and officers were still talking to a 17-year-old.

They said they were looking into whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
