Taite Kupa is on trial in the High Court at Whangarei, for 19 offences against children in his care, ranging from assault, to the sexual violation of two girls.

One charge of rape against Taite Kupa has been withdrawn since the trial began, and another has been reduced to attempted sexual violation by rape.

The Crown has presented evidence over the week from children who say their caregiver punished them by kicking and hitting them, and in the case of two teenage girls, sexually assaulted them.

The defence will open its case on Monday.
