Snow is continuing to fall in parts of the South Island with a strong cold southerly making its way up the island on Thursday.
The Metservice said snow is expected down to 300 metres on Thursday afternoon and some could accumulate on the alpine passes.
It said drivers should still be able to use the roads, so long as they were carrying chains.
