A man charged with assaulting an eight-month-old baby has been remanded in custody after appearing in the Hamilton District Court.
The 33-year-old from Hamilton was granted interim name suppression when he appeared on Monday.
The baby remains in a critical condition in Auckland's Starship Hospital after being transferred from Waikato Hospital on Sunday night.
Emergency services were called to a property in York Street in Hamilton East just after 11.30am on Sunday the man was later arrested there.
He is to reappear for a bail hearing on Tuesday.
Forensic experts began examining the house on Monday.
