A South Island freight company has been fined tens of thousands of dollars after a worker's arm got caught in a rock crusher machine.

Labourer William Clark suffered cuts, a dislocated shoulder and a fracture to his upper arm in August last year.

He was attempting to clear debris from a conveyor belt when his glove got caught and his arm was dragged into the drum roller.

The company, Solly's Freight, pleaded guilty to two charges under the Health and Safety in Employment Act.

In the Nelson District Court on Friday, it was fined $52,000 and ordered to pay reparation of $15,000.
