Accused boy to remain at school

1:15 pm on 23 July 2014

A boy suspected of stabbing a fellow pupil is to return to the Auckland school where he is alleged to have carried out the attack.

An 11-year-old was attacked with a pair of scissors at the Pacific Christian School in Mangere in June. The boy is in a stable condition at Starship Hospital.

The Ministry of Education says Pacific Christian School has decided not to exclude the student, also 11, believed to have been involved in the incident.

It says the school is working with him, his family, and the wider school community to bring him back to school sensitively and carefully.

The ministry received a complaint from the sister of the accused boy about bullying at the school and says it is giving the school guidance about preventing bullying.

The Ministry of Social Development is not saying whether the boy is still in Child, Youth and Family care, because an active police investigation is underway. Police are not commenting on their investigation.

The first incident happened at Pacific Christian School in Mangere Bridge.
