A man who allegedly invaded a Napier home has been badly beaten by a resident of the house and admitted to hospital with critical head injuries.
Police say scene examinations have been completed at the house to establish the circumstances leading to a 23-year-old man receiving head injuries at the weekend.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave de Lange said an intruder allegedly entered the house and attacked a male occupant.
He said the intruder was not known to the occupants of the house and a man in the house fought off the intruder in a violent struggle.
