A Timaru man who has served 20 years in prison after murdering his wife, and dumping her body in Lake Tekapo, has been denied parole.

In 1993, Robin Churchill killed Sharon Churchill, in what the Parole Board describe as a "dreadful execution".

The body of the mother-of-three was found wrapped up and weighted down in the water.

The Parole Board said Churchill, who's in his early 50s, has been described as at times manipulative and lacking remorse and empathy.

In 2003 he attacked another prisoner, who spent five days in hospital as a result.
