Whangarei police are warning people to be cautious if they are offered cheap avocados - the sprayed fruit may be stolen and could be harmful.
Thieves targeted an orchard at Maungatapere two nights running last week and got away with 2000 avocados.
Police said on Monday the fruit was sprayed recently and shouldn't be eaten for 14 days.
They want people to report any cheap suspect avocados if they're not being sold in a store or genuine market stall.
