Police in Mount Maunganui are looking for a group who stole a large amount of a dangerous acid used to make the drug methampetamine from a chemical yard.
They say the theft occurred at the Totara Street premises just after 11pm last night.
Detective Matt Valentine said the offenders were spotted by staff and fled the scene, but
some of the liquid spilt and the thieves may have chemical burns.
The scene and CCTV footage are being examined, he said,
Police want to hear from anyone who saw suspicious activity in the area late last night or know people who have chemical burns.
