Three houses were evacuated and a highway closed when a truck carrying fertiliser chemicals rolled in the Bay of Plenty town of Opotiki.
State Highway 2 was closed west of the town while firefighters helped to clear the scene.
The driver suffered shoulder and rib injuries in the 3.20am crash.
One lane of the highway was open by midday after firefighters assessed the truck's contents and worked to clear the scene.
