Anti-fluoride group ends challenge

11:35 am on 3 September 2014

An anti-fluoride group has withdrawn its court challenge against a decision by the Hamilton City Council to reintroduce fluoride to the city's water supply.

Safer Water Alternative New Zealand was planning to seek a High Court Judicial Review after the council backtracked on a decision it made last year to stop fluoridating the water.

The council voted to resume fluoridation after a public referendum overwhelmingly voted in favour .

Safer Water Alternative co-ordinator Trevor Crosbie said it had withdrawn the court action for financial reasons.

The group has asked the council to set up at least two filling stations providing unfluoridated water to the public.
