It said there has not been a confirmed case for more than four weeks.

The outbreak lasted from 27 May until 12 August, when the last confirmed case was notified.

During that time there were 124 confirmed cases, with ten of those needing to be hospitalised.

The Board said almost half the confirmed cases were in people who had had contact with an earlier confirmed case and they were placed in quarantine before they became unwell.

About 80 percent of those with the infectious illness were aged between 10 and 20.

Waikato Population Health said the vast majority of cases were in people who weren't immunised, with only four who were immunised, contracting the virus.
