A former scoutmaster has pleaded guilty in the Hamilton District Court to sex charges against five boys.

Barry Were, 61, admitted 16 charges of indecent assault and indecent acts against boys aged between seven and 18 from 1983 to 2010.

Two new charges were laid in court today and one original charge was withdrawn.

Weir, who is a software designer, was a scout leader between 1976 and 1983 and was also been a youth search and rescue co-ordinator.

He will be sentenced in November.
