Two men are wanted in Southland for a large number of burglaries targeting rest homes and elderly people.

Paul Hemana Tipenes and Noel Junior Karora, who are 36, are believed to have committed a large number of burglaries.

Detective Sergeant Stu Harvey says Paul Hemana Tipenes and Noel Junior Karora, both 36, are believed to have been 'shoulder surfing', which involves getting close behind people withdrawing money from cash machines or making electronic payments.

Mr Harvey said police are asking the public to have greater awareness of who is near them when they are using their cards.
