Hamilton woman attacked by own dog

6:51 pm on 30 September 2014

A Hamilton woman has been taken to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition after being attacked by her dog this afternoon.

The woman is in Waikato Hospital after being bitten on the face and neck by the bull mastiff-cross at a property in Avalon Drive just before 3pm.

A Hamilton City Council spokesperson said the dog was about six years old and the woman had owned it since it was a puppy.

It was known to authorities because of an earlier incident with another dog, which earned it a "menacing" classification.

However, there had been no other reports about the dog since then, the spokeswoman said.
