Liu had earlier pleaded guilty to the two charges over excavation work which put workers and his own family at risk.

The charges under the Resource Management Act and Building Act relate to two of his houses in the suburbs of Epsom and Remuera. The properties have a combined value of over $6 million.

Liu admitted failing to comply with the conditions of his resource consent for the Remuera property and that he carried out building work without building consent at the Epsom property.

National MP Maurice Williamson resigned his ministerial portfolio on 5 January this year after it was revealed that he contacted police over their investigation of Liu on domestic violence charges.
