Possible civil action against Swney

12:09 pm on 23 October 2014

Auckland's downtown promotion agency Heart of the City has hinted at possible civil action against its sacked chief executive Alex Swney, who's facing tax evasion charges, which he denies.

The agency, which is funded by ratepayers, is having its books examined by forensic accountants since Mr Swney revealed that fictitious invoicing has been alleged in some of the charges.

Heart of the City chair Terry Gould told its annual general meeting the accountants' work could be wrapped up in weeks.

Mr Gould said Heart of the City would keep in touch with the Serious Fraud Office and, depending on what is found, may consider civil action.
