Police have confirmed the pedestrian killed after being struck by a train south of Hamilton was a teenage boy.
The boy died after he was hit by the frieght train passing throughTe Kuiti railway station about 6pm yesterday.
Police said they were providing support to the family of the victim, the train driver and his family.
A Kiwirail spokesperson said the driver of the train was very shaken from the accident and was taking time off.
The accident has been referred to the ccoroner.
