Thousands of people lined Wellington's waterfront to watch tonight's fireworks extravaganza.

Police said overall the public behaved well but there were reports of people throwing firecrackers into groups of people and at cars on Oriental Parade.
Some drivers who parked on Wellington's motorway to watch the display had to be moved on.
The 12 minute show, from a barge and pontoons anchored in the harbour, started at 9pm.

Guy Fawkes night throughout the country was relatively quiet for fire crews who attended about 60 incidents - about half of those in the Auckland region.

New Zealand is moving towards a point where public displays of fireworks will be the only way for the public to enjoy them, according to Prime Minister John Key.
