A hunter on the West Coast has been airlifted to hospital after he accidentally fired into rocks which shattered, injuring his face and upper body, this morning.
A Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter spokesperson said the 60-year old was hunting alone in the Tutaki area and climbing over rocks when his rifle went off.
The spokesperson said the hunter made his way to a nearby farmhouse to get help about 9am.
The man was treated by paramedics at the house, and then flown to Nelson Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
