Police officers recovering after attack

The Christchurch police officer attacked while responding to a violent fight, has now been discharged from hospital.

Three officers were recovering from head injuries after being attacked by a group while responding to reports of a fight, including some that an axe was used.

One officer, who was knocked unconscious had now been released from Christchurch hospital after two others were earlier discharged.

The three officers were attacked while responding to a fight in on Carnarvon Street in Linwood about 6pm yesterday, and were later admitted to Christchurch hospital.

A police dog was also attacked at the party.

Fairfax media reported the original fight broke out following a six-year-old's birthday party.

Eight people had been arrested and faced a range of assault charges.

A 19 -year-old man was being held in custody and would appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow.

Another five men would appear in court over the coming week and two would be referred to Youth Aid.
