Police continue search for missing 'Celine'

4:13 pm on 15 December 2014

The police hope to learn more about a missing French woman from a translator today - a French-Canadian tourist who met the missing tourist while tramping.

Police began searching for the French woman, known only as Celine, yesterday when she was reported two days overdue from a tramp near Arthur's Pass.

Police said they had spoken to the French-Canadian, Genevieve Forcier, who met Celine while tramping and walked out of the track with her.

Because of language barriers, police know only that Celine is in her mid-twenties, but have heard other reports she hitched a ride back to Arthur's Pass.

They plan to speak to Ms Forcier today through a translator, to learn Celine's surname and form a description of her.
