Policeman hit by car in stable condition

5:03 pm on 21 December 2014

A policeman remains in a stable condition in Hawke's Bay Hospital after being hit by a car early on Friday morning.

The officer was manning a checkpoint near Clive when a car crossed the centre line and hit him, then sped off.

Police said a local man, Robbie Richards, has been arrested.

He will appear in the Napier District Court tomorrow on two charges, not related to the hit and run.

The car was found crashed more than two kilometres away, and the police also found one passenger.

The injured officer received leg injuries, and cuts to his face and arms.

The full details of what happened are still being investigated.
