Holiday reminder to secure homes

1:51 pm on 25 December 2014

The police are reminding people to keep their homes secure when they go away for holiday, after a spate of burglaries in Canterbury.

Thieves struck homes in Lincoln, Rolleston and Kaiapoi.

Three men were charged after the three rural burglaries this month.

The police said items taken included electronics, flatscreen TVs, and jewellery.

One of the men arrested , a 21-year-old, appeared in the Christchurch District Court yesterday.

The others, aged 23 and 29, would be in court next week.

Police said holidaygoers should secure their homes and lock up tools and ladders around the property.

They said people having gatherings in their back gardens should ensure the other side of the property was secure.
