Fire crews remain at the scene of a suspicious bushfire in West Auckland, which burnt through nearly ten hectares yesterday.

At the height of the blaze last night, about 70 firefighters and three helicopters were involved in bringing the fire at Cornwallis, under control.

Principal rural fire officer Bryan Cartelle said there had been seven crews at the scene today, and a small night crew will stay overnight to monitor the situation.

He said tomorrow morning, they would put up thermal imaging cameras to see if any hot-spots remained, and assess what needed to be done.

Mr Cartelle said the fire was being treated as suspicious, and fire officers will be working with the police to investigate how it started.
