Auckland bus driver loses appeal

An experienced Auckland bus driver has lost his appeal against dismissal over a driving incident.

Last May, a member of the public complained that Petiva Tuiloma hit the back of his car when pulling out of a bus stop.

The complainant said he drove to the next stop and waited for the bus to come, then confronted the driver by standing in front of the bus.

He said the driver nudged forward twice, clipping him, then told him he was crazy, it was his fault, and sped off.

Mr Tuiloma appealed against his dismissal for serious misconduct to the Employment Relations Authority but, after viewing telematics data from the bus company, the authority has upheld the decision.

Mr Tuiloma had worked for Transport Auckland for 19 years.
